Choose Position for Sequins – 2 Seconds Interval'
[ from 'Design for a Carnival']
40” x 60” (101.6cm x 152.4cm)
Ants Choose Positions for Sequins uses two photographs of ants moving sequins around an ant hill. There is a two second interval between them and the image on the right is also reversed. Together they look mirrored and appear to form a kind of mask. On close inspection what appears to be symmetrical contains differences in the positions of the ants between the two images. As part of Design for a Carnival, Ants Choose Positions for Sequins suggests that a decision making process is integral for the preparation of this event. The sequin positions could therefore be applied to a costume, or something more expansive, perhaps the location of sound-systems within a landscape.
